My Girl Romeo
Being a rabbit mommie for eight years has taught me plenty about rabbits. Their habits, their likes, their dislikes and how adorable and lovable they are. But I especially learned not to believe what you're told by the pet store sales person.
In October 2010 I met my sweet Romeo at Jack's Pets. It was love at first sight. In a pet carousel I pulled her out and immediately the little love bug gave me kisses. Without a doubt I knew in that moment she would be mine. While I was purchasing all the necessary items for my new family member some ladies had picked her up and we're receiving kisses. I smile to myself because that little bunny was mine and going forward all the kisses would also be mine.
But how did she become a he? Before I left the store I asked if she were a boy or girl. The clerk turned her over and said boy. Perfect, I thought because he had already stolen my heart so I aptly named him Romeo.
For the next two years I lavished love on my Romeo. He (she) saw me through some hard times. There's nothing like having something to love when life is rough. It wasn't until I brought a new rabbit home that I found out my boy Romeo was actually a girl.
Sure I had wondered. She was so affectionate, I never found boy parts and she had nipples. But I was green and didn't know any better. At the doctor's office they took him back for his neuter. It wasn't ten minutes later when the technician came out and announced Romeo was a girl. A girl?!
After that initial shock I almost changed her name to Roma. But my girl has been Romeo for two years and she had truly stolen my heart so she remained Romeo.
Romeo, Romeo where art thou
In Heaven now you roam
Forever in your mommie's heart
Never to be forgotten

This was beautiful, Ann!
